Meditations
The practice of meditation or contemplation can help still your mind, bringing about relaxation, better focus, and clarity.
These simple, guided meditations can be either played directly from this page, or you can download them, (they are mp3 format), and play them from your device.
The meditations fall into these general categories-
● Comfort
● Emotional Shift
● Relaxation
● Mindfulness
These meditations are rather brief, (about 3-to-7 minutes each), making it easier to meditate at least once a day.
I highly suggest turning off or muting all Smart devices before beginning your meditation, and finding a place of relative quiet and calm. (And definitely not while driving or operating heavy machinery! ; )
Deeper Breathing (7m)
Find a seated posture that permits you to comfortably breathe more deeply. It’s fine if you want to lie down for this meditation. If you fall asleep, that’s probably a good thing!
Remember One Good Thing (3m)
This meditation is designed as a bit of an antidote to the fact that we humans are wired to have a negativity bias. Negative thoughts and events tend to have Velcro-like qualities—they usually stick like crazy. Positive thoughts and events tend to have Teflon-like qualities—they usually slide right off. Doing this exercise every day, if possible, will start to shift your point of view.
I suggest keeping a journal for this, making an entry every day for the One Good Thing that you focused on. It will help you to see and re-discover that there are good things happening to you all the time…
Comfort (5m)
Need some TLC? Having a bit of a rough passage lately? Take some time to be gentled back to an easier emotional space.
Simple Love (4m)
Pick a subject for the point of focus for this meditation. A young child or beloved pet usually works best. It’s fine to Google search for an image of a child or an animal that appeals to you if this will help. (Having an adult as the subject of this meditation can be problematic, as those relationships tend to be more complex and can carry some negative aspects that may hinder the meditation. However, feel free to experiment with the point of focus to find what works best for you!)
Awareness (5m)
Pick a point of awareness and stay with it. Your mind will wander, and that is to be expected. Gently become aware of the thoughts, and as best as you can, gently and kindly bring your attention back to that point of awareness. Over time, your ability to concentrate will deepen. For this meditation, an upright posture is best. Find a chair, cushion, and style that works well for you. Feel free to experiment.
